COCHINEAL

This particular and tiny insect is part of the historical and economic landscape of the Canary Islands for centuries.

The cochineal was the first natural pigment with which I started to dye silk garments. Starting from very old historical recipes, monochrome and uniform dyes are achieved, in a wide chromatic range, which starts with the orange ones and goes to the dark violets, just by changing the pH of the solution.

At present it has recovered its primary function thanks to the growing interest in natural dyes in the textile industry. In addition, it continues to be of great value for the cosmetics and food sectors.
